How to Prepare for Your Teacher Based Assessment
We know that alternating between school and home learning over the past year must have been tough. So with exams being scrapped once again, we thought we’d give you some expert advice on how to ace your teacher-based assessments.
What is a teacher-based assessment?
For those of you who don’t know, GCSE, A Level and BTEC students will now be awarded their grades by their teachers. Teachers will base their grades on all the work you have submitted throughout your course, and will have until the 18th June to do so.
And how can you prepare?
The good news is, it isn’t too late to boost your grades! We spoke to Louise Wilkinson – Assistant Head of English at John Fernley School in Leicestershire – who shared THREE top tips on how to get ahead during this time…
1. Communication
- Communication with your teachers is SO important. Start by asking them what evidence they need to predict your grades, and use this to make sure all your work is to the best standard.
- Make sure you know exactly which mock exams and assessments are coming up so there aren’t any nasty surprises. Ask your teacher if you can submit a practice piece in advance as their feedback will highlight any areas you need to work on.
2. Homework
- Complete all your homework on time and do your best to catch up on any work you may have missed recently. This will show your teacher that you’re being proactive and are serious about improving your final results.
- Ask for feedback from previous assignments and mock exams and have a think about how you could improve those pieces of work.
3. Mindset
- Try to attend all your lessons and make sure you engage in online learning if you have to self-isolate at any point.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to catch up, staying on top of your workload will set you up for success when it comes to crunch time.
