  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I’m in ratio with the children, I serve breakfast, snack, lunch and tea to the children, engage with the children in messy plays which include many different themes for the children to learn from, maths games , role plays like playing in the kitchen, baby’s and dress up and literacy games. I help the children understand the world the best way I can, I help answer any questions they may have. I read them books. I am also trained in nappy changing and toileting so that’s another part of my day.

  • Yes, I have developed my communication skills more as well as my time management, mange-ring my apprenticeship work, work itself and being there for different children at different places has helped. I have learnt lots of new skills as well such as conflict resolution, as before this role I would of had no clue what to do but now learning what to do when the children have a dispute has helped me learn that skill.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately no however our nursery is also a forest school so when the children go out it’s as part of our forest school, the older children will learn how to use tools such as a bow-saw, the children will watch the adult build fires and occasionally make food on the fires for them to eat after, this helps them develop many different skills.

  • Make sure even if you unsure it’s the job you want in your future make sure you still come in positive and engaging in everything because your attitude does effect the children wither that’s positive or negative the children will know, they will engage because your engaging. I would tell them how even tho the job sounds easy it’s not yogi have to be in the correct mind set always you will be faced with challenges you would never know would be involved in a childcare job but at the end of everyday you feel rewarded with the fact you taught a child something new about the world.
