As a General Manager at David Lloyd Clubs, my role involves overseeing all aspects of club operations, including team leadership, member experience, financial performance, and strategic growth. Day-to-day, I focus on supporting and developing my Heads of Department, ensuring high standards in service and facilities, driving commercial performance, and fostering a positive team culture. I also work on long-term business strategies, including community engagement, member retention, and innovation in club offerings. The role is fast-paced, dynamic, and highly rewarding, requiring strong leadership, adaptability, and a focus on continuous improvement.
Yes, my Level 7 apprenticeship has significantly enhanced my leadership, strategic thinking, and commercial acumen. I’ve developed a deeper understanding of business strategy, financial management, and stakeholder influence. My ability to lead high-performing teams, navigate change, and drive innovation has also improved. Additionally, the apprenticeship has strengthened my coaching and mentoring skills, allowing me to support team development more effectively. Overall, it has been a transformational experience that has elevated my leadership capabilities and strategic decision-making.
I’ve really enjoyed my Level 7 apprenticeship—it has been both challenging and rewarding. As a General Manager, I’m passionate about creating opportunities for my team to engage socially and stay active. I’ve introduced team Padel socials, fitness classes, and recognition events to build a strong team culture. There are also regular networking opportunities, leadership workshops, and industry events that support professional development. The club provides a positive and inclusive environment where team members can connect outside of work, which has been great for morale and engagement.
