My role as a degree apprentice involves providing assistance to the principal engineers on various projects. Each week brings new challenges; some days I might be working on CAD tasks, while on other days, I could be focused on writing reports.
From the day I started, my experience in the civil engineering field was quite limited. Over the past few months, I have had the chance to work on various projects, learning the company's CAD systems, collaborating closely with team members to learn from them and gaining a deeper understanding of how civil engineers approach problem solving. I have also developed my technical writing capabilities, allowing me to produce clear and concise reports.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, this is because I love the people who I work with and always feel like a valued member of the team.
The programme is well structured and clear. I have a wide network of support available to me
I have both a line manager and a buddy, who is an apprentice with a year of experience at the company, to support me. They are always available to answer any questions I have and provide assistance whenever needed.
My training provider offers great support, and the communication between myself, the training provider, and my line manager is always clear and concise.
My training provider provides me with the knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of the tasks given to me at work allowing me to be better able to perform more effectively
The company is highly employee focused. There are fortnightly team socials as well as weekly sports groups funded by the company and run by the employees.
