Attending to and treating patient's who call 111 or 999 for an ambulance. The apprenticeship upskills me from a former technician to a paramedic by giving me the relevent knowledge and skills.
I have learnt all the relevent paramedic skills needed for my role along with further indepth studies of the human body and how it maintains homeostasis in traumatic and medical emergencies.
I enjoy the academic side and having to review research to better understand treatment options.
It feels pretty well organised. We moved into the Daphne Steele building so there were some teething issues with the rooms but otherwise there hasn't been any issues for me.
I have quaterly meetings with my team leader (from employment) and my practice educator (from university) so I get in depth discussions about my course with them to see how I'm coping with studying and working.
The lecturers are all approachable and seem knowledgeable in their respective areas.
Having completed the first year, I can positively say this degree has helped further my knoweldge and decision making in regards to patient's best interests.
None at work, though I am aware of groups that exist.
Yes
In my 7 years with this employer I have had support from my line manager whenever I have needed it and feel that I am supported at all times.
It is not what you might expect it to be, such as the TV shows depict. Prepare for challenges with only yourself and a crew mate which can make such big differences in patient's lives.
