  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I deliver workshops to year 7-13 children in schools and colleges giving insights into the world of work. I research and prepare work-related presentations including: The World of Work, Apprenticeships, Social Media Curation, Interview Techniques, LinkedIn Introduction, CV Writing and others. These are delivered virtually or in person in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. As a L5 coaching apprentice, this has enhanced my leadership skills, and how I coach young people and peers alike to help them reframe problems and empower them to find the answers within themselves to find appropriate solutions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The content is excellent, as is the organisation, and the delivery.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. There are monthly online training and learning sessions, with regular tutor reviews and feedback sessions. These reviews also include feedback from my line manager.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is very flexible and understanding (as she is also on the programme), I also have health issues that can impact on my availability, and I have always been fully supported in this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from MBKB is excellent. My tutor is a great coach and motivator. She holds high standards for all of us in the cohort, and is accessible to answer queries and walk you through processes. They also offer wellbeing support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Incredibly well, it has raised my awareness of business processes and the different leadership styles and empowered me to develop myself. Coaching is a fundamental tool for supporting, negotiating, and building rapport and meaningful relationships.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are many local and national events and opportunities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Department for Work and Pensions to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Having worked for the department for over 20 years, they have become more invested in CPD, even where it doesn't directly link to your job role. They have allowed me to develop areas of interest linked to my skills and strengths enabling me to add value in my own unique way.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?
  • Prepare yourself for a long and intense application process by understanding how your skills, strengths and values align with the department's success profiles. It is a difficult process but worth the effort.
