  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I get given tasks each week which can vary with different things. I have been out on site and seen boreholes and repairs that need to be done and what goes on behind the scene. I have designed areas where bush cuts need to happen and shown and arc GIS.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a variety of skills, these will help me in my future with my career such as basic things like what pat testing is, what a cat scan is, how to survey land, how BIM 360 works and how arc GIS works.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme because i get to see what the work is like that I will be looking to push forward into and hope to get a degree apprenticeship with.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is very well structured, at times it can be quite though due to HS2 not sure if it is going ahead but, it is good to see all the pre construction before anything happens because I have previously seen construction phases due to previous works.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer sends me lots of work and interesting work and tasks to help thrive me into the industry which is very helpful and supportive when you are a student. This also helps me see a variety of things and scenarios in the industry helping for future scenarios and situations.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive help from my college with different things to do with my course helping to both my ESP and papers. This helps me improve my test scores and will help get a better qualification helping find a degree apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My college have gone over things with me which i now see in my work placement role which gives me a better understanding of how they work and what they actually are. It also helps with confidence in roles both in and out of college.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No but I don't mind that as I don't have the time due to working outside of college and work experience. We do however do a FPL league which is competitive and fun for the workplace.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They can help you thrive into the construction industry and also is really good for your future as many projects are upcoming and guaranteed work. It also looks good for their cv if to move on from Balfour Beatty with it being such a big company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • Show your knowledge of works experience in construction industry and what you are have done at college and how it makes you stand out in the industry.
