On a day to day basis, on the work side of things, I am usually given a task to do and given a recomended timeframe. Alongside this I have many meetings such as team stand ups 1 2 1's and if I need support with any tasks or need to find out information I set up calls with certain memebers in my team. Even outside of work I am supported by the early careers team and I am able to call upon this at any point. My responsibilities include punctuality, meeting deadlines, being professional at all times, good communication and finally teamwork.
At E.ON, I have been gradually introduced to a wide range of skills! My first task involved learning how to retrieve data from Snowflake, a data platform used for extracting and managing data. I then transferred this data into Power BI, which allows for automated, cleaner, and more user-friendly data visualization through interactive dashboards. I worked on this task with a fellow apprentice, which greatly improved my communication skills and helped us collaborate seamlessly. For my first experience using these two platforms, I was pleased with our results—we successfully displayed the data using graphs and tables, making it highly interactive. More recently, I was introduced to Jira, a web application used for task delegation. Getting the hang of Jira was quite straightforward, as it revolves around five core concepts. My learning experience was made even easier with the support of my manager and a coworker, who took time out of their day to teach me both the essential and more advanced aspects of the platform. Over time, I have also developed existing skills, particularly in cloud web services, which I have found to be widely used in digital technology and a key driver of the future. E.ON provided me with access to a free Microsoft Dynamics course for a week, which significantly expanded my knowledge of cloud web services. Before this, my understanding was primarily focused on Amazon Web Services, so this experience broadened my perspective. Additionally, I have improved my understanding of coding languages and explored new libraries both through university and at work. For example, I used Python and learned two new libraries—Scikit-Learn and NumPy—to build a fascinating machine learning model in Jupyter Notebook. Jupyter Notebook was easy to pick up, and its notebook-style interface made it ideal for developing a machine learning model. Overall, in just six months, I have learned so much, and I couldn't ask for more from E.ON's incredible support and opportunities!
Reflecting on the amazing events I’ve attended, the countless opportunities to learn and develop my skills, and the incredible support I’ve received from the early careers team, my mentor, manager, and buddy, I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoy working for E.ON and studying at Nottingham Trent University!
I would say the apprenticeship structure at E.ON is excellent! This is mainly due to the key aspects I will discuss below: First, we have the Early Careers team, who regularly check in with us through frequent calls. During these calls, they always ask if they can provide support, address any concerns, and even extend their help beyond work. Secondly, we have our mentors, who act as guides throughout our journey. My mentor has been incredibly supportive—even helping me secure my second placement! They consistently offer assistance with work and help me network with new people across the business. Thirdly, we have our buddy, another key figure in our support system. They help us communicate with others and ensure a smooth transition into E.ON. My buddy has been a great source of support, assisting me with both university and work-related tasks. They also introduced me to older apprentices, making it easier to connect and build relationships. Finally, we have our line manager and placement managers, who play a crucial role in supporting us. They ensure we stay on track, complete our work on time, and continue developing in the right direction. All these aspects come together to create a strong system of support and communication, forming the foundation of a successful apprenticeship scheme. Thanks to this, I am grateful every day to be part of E.ON!
I receive an incredible amount of support from my employer, whether it be supporting with work, wellbeing and emotional support. My employer is very open to help with anything really and I couldn't ask more from the monumental amount of support, help and opportunities they present me with.
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. Regular check-ins and progress reviews help ensure I stay on track, and I have access to a range of learning materials, including online resources and lecture recordings. My tutors provide guidance on assignments and projects, offering feedback to help me improve. Whenever I have questions or need clarification, I can reach out via email or scheduled meetings. The combination of structured support and independent learning allows me to develop both academically and professionally while balancing my work responsibilities at E.ON.
My qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role at E.ON by providing a solid foundation in digital technology. The theoretical knowledge I gain, directly supports my ability to manage tasks effectively. While some aspects of the course feel more academic, the technical modules, especially those related to software engineering, cloud computing and AI, are highly relevant to my role. They enhance my problem-solving skills and allow me to apply new techniques when working on software solutions and digital projects. The combination of structured learning and hands-on experience at E.ON makes the qualification valuable in helping me develop both technical and project management skills.
The degree apprentices to organise fairly frequent meet ups, these meet ups can be a varied set of activities which can be enjoyed by most people! The professional networking events are great, there are conferences, away days for team building and even awards we can attend. Overall I would say there is a great selection of social activites for all sorts of people.

Whether you're interested in technology, project management etc. E.ON provides a great foundation for building a career in the energy sector while working on exciting, forward-thinking projects.
If you're applying to E.ON, my biggest advice would be to research the company’s focus on sustainability and digital transformation. When applying, tailor your application to highlight relevant skills, especially in digital solutions, software engineering, cloud computing or project management, depending on the role. If you're applying for an apprenticeship, emphasise your passion for learning and how you can balance studying with hands-on work.
