  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I enable the delivery of Social Mobility activity (employment, education and training), Foundational Economy activity (investment in social business and the local economy and volunteering) and Social Inclusion activity (community support and EDI training) on the Transpennine Route Upgrade. I liaise with internal and external stakeholders, to plan, promote, deliver, monitor and report on BAM's social sustainability.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about Stakeholder Management, Project Management, Circular Economy, Communication Skills & enhanced my Sustainability knowledge.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship, I found the workload a lot at times but I feel it has helped massivley with understanding of my job role and it will also help me to progess up to management in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I dedicated one day each week to my apprenticeship, during which I attended regular online courses with my tutor. The remaining four days were spent working on the project.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been super supportive, my manager has allowed extra time if needed to meet tight deadlines and has organised for staff to support as and when required.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is fantastic, she is really knowledgable about the content that was delivered, she was always available to meet if i was struggling and talk through ideas. When I was struggling with so many written elements the tutor adapted her training to allow me to be able to undertake professional discussions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have a much wider knowledge about corporate responsibility and learnt how to horizon scan , project manage, environmental & sustainability impacts which the project i am working on has so many job roles and I now have a better understanding of the importance of how they all work together. I feel I am able to have better conversations with higher management to help inform and make better decisions.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I am involved in the setting up of a neurodiverse group for any one with an interest or parents of children have a safe place to talk / support each other

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a really great place to work and the company really cares about it's staff and their progression. There is lots of great benefits for staff.

  • There are many different opportunities within BAM, the staff are all super helpful and willing to help you on your journey!
