I help to assess payments for subcontractors. I also coordinate work with other members of task order commercial team, ensuing that I help with tasks that need doing. I receive and review the subcontractors timesheets for signature. I lead a team of CEMAR administrators to manage all of KierBAM's subcontracts on CEMAR and ensure that contracts and users are set up with adequate access.
I have significantly improved my leadership skills and management skills with my CEMAR team responsibilities. I have also improved my excel skills and presentation skills through doing work and presenting for the commercial team. I have learnt how to communicate in a professional manner and am looking to take this forward into my future career.
I really enjoy the work side of my apprenticeship, my team is very helpful with teaching me new processes and skills that aid me in my day to day work. I also have many opportunities to expand my learning outside of my daily roles. My study side of my apprenticeship is well supported by my learning provider and the teaching standard is high.
My programme has 9 week study blocks at Leeds college of building split apart by a year of working on site. I find this helped me to better integrate into my work and team as a large portion of time is spent on site. The EPA for my apprenticeship means I continue learning and doing college work within the year to keep on top of my learning.
I have regular check ins with my line manager and weekly check ins with my team. The early careers team does not have as much involvement with my progression however are easily contactable if I need help. My team help me to learn and cover all of the experience I need for my apprenticeship.
I have a EPA mentor that I can freely contact when I need help outside of my college block. When at college there is a designated BAM coordinator who can help with work and study balance. Overall there are many people that can offer support to me regardless of whether I am at college or at work.
I have learnt a lot in the 8 units I have now studied within my course. This has helped with my background understanding when I apply it to the processes and work that I do on a daily basis. It also has provided me with an understanding of other processes that I do not do on a daily basis such as design processes.
There are regular social meet-ups for the commercial team which allows for me to talk to the other commercial teams on other task orders. There are also monthly apprenticeship learning opportunities where I can learn from a senior member of staff explaining their role and progression on the project.

BAM Nuttall have a lot of experience with apprenticeships and have a very good training provider for study. They have multiple support networks available for use whether on site, in office or at college. The cohorts mean you can meet many other people who are doing similar roles to you and offers a good start for networking in the future.
My advice for applying to BAM Nuttall is to be your best self. If you are passionate about your future and a hard worker there is a high likelihood that you would flourish with an apprenticeship. If you have a good idea of how you want to progress and develop throughout your career they fully support you to reach that.
