  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing Sub contractors, setting out and surveying and ensuring permits and task briefings are in place

    8/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learned lots about using varying site equipment and lots about health and safety and construction processes.

    9/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy my program a lot, it has a good balance between college and work. however, I think that pay could match competitor companies such as Kier who offer full subsistence and company car for apprentices. Also, since turnign 21 and going on national living wage, I have lost a lot of my company benefits.

    5/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it is well structured with the college and work balance, some extra input between the early careers team and line managers could be beneficial.

    7/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a fair bit of support from my employer however more input between the apprenticeships team and my employer could be better, I felt I had a lot of time wasted due to their being a lack of opportunities at my last site.

    6/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • a lot of support LCB are really helpful, could maybe do a little bit more in terms of support for ICE end point assessment by explaining what we should be logging and how straight away from leaving the first block at college, maybe within the first month

    9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • it helps quite a lot, i believe the surveying and setting out unit could be more tailored to site.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes there are a lot of these

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • they generally look after their staff. apprentices could be made to feel more heard and more visible action could be taken towards our concerns rather than telling us that issues are being spoken about in the background.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • do your research, you will most likely be living away from home if you work for Nuttall regardless of if there are sites nearby you as they need to fill you into a space which works for the company and your development (however, there are sometimes options to move site in the future).
