  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I lead a team of Quality Engineer's, testing a telephony application within the Bank. We are the "Route to Live" team that test in the SIT & LUAT phases of testing. My day-to-day role involves overseeing the team, being the first point of contact resolving challenges, and line management duties.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt basic Java scripting, culminating in creating a basic application using Java code, along with a Devlog. I have also gained insights into the impact of digital technology on organisations and society. Currently, I am learning database fundamentals and Business Systems theory.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying the programme. Meeting new people, learning new skills, and gaining more confidence in the tech world as time goes on has been incredibly rewarding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • With the course provider being a University, I have had confident in their skilled, experienced and knowledgeable faculty. The modules are well organised and plenty of resources available, in order for the students to succeed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Line Manager has been very supportive, from the initial application and writing a great recommendation to providing extra time and supporting me during check-ins with my Skills Coach. The Apprenticeship Team in the Bank has also been fantastic, offering support whenever needed and being great during the application process.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The faculty have been great. The tutors are very engaging and knowledgeable in their fields, providing support during classes and outside of them through email or Teams. The material they place on Moodle is very helpful, and the additional reading material they recommend is invaluable

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The great thing about an apprenticeship is that you can apply the skills you’re learning directly to your day-to-day role. Even though it’s only my first year, I’m already attending calls and feel like I’m understanding more of the technical language being used.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Lloyds has great workplace events based at your location, anything from free ice creams, healthy lunch events to up skilling events. There are several Reboot events throughout the country, which are great to attend they have stalls showcasing new technology and how we've incorpoted it into the Bank and also external Vendors talking about their products and services.

  • Yes

  • I have worked for Lloyds Banking Group for nearly 20 years, I have had the opportunity to have a varied career, working in admin roles, branch roles and the majority of this time as been in change roles like Business Analyst and Testing Roles. I am very grateful to be given this chance to gain a degree alongside my day job.

  • To stand out when applying to Lloyds Banking Group, be proactive and show a commitment to continuous learning. Highlight unique achievements, strong communication skills, and teamwork. Demonstrate a customer-focused approach and problem-solving abilities. Research the company to align your application with their values and goals.
