  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm the lynchpin of my branch. In order to be effectiv, i need to know how to perform all the tasks in store from the front office, to the back. I am available to greet clients, do site surveys, create kitchen designs, sell them and even deliver them if need be. I need to be able to order stock, maintain good stock levels, and keep an eye on warehouse staff. My main role though is to get the relevant members of my team to perform their tasks to a high standard and get the best out of them to get the best results. I also need to stay on op of admin, making sure the bills get paid.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Definitely developed a higher level of emotional intelligence. I know more about myself and my own capabilities, but I also understand different people and what their capabilities may be.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I had my down moments, especially when it seemed as if I wasn't able to pick new concepts up quickly enough, however, my mentor helped me pull my focus back and I was able to get back on course. Once I'd become better and more capable with new things, I enoyed myself a lot more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Organised very well. The deadlines were reasonable and I always had enough time to get my work done.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor was super patient with me during the rougher times. His support could be counted on at any time and I believe having him on side made the process a lot more straightforward than it may have been without him.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has already helped me to be a much better people manager. I understand my current team a lot better than I did when I first started. I now use a few different business models and techniques to get the best out of them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Travis Perkins Plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Benchmarx is a kitchen company with a lot of room to grow. We aren't the biggest in our industry which is why we, as employees, have so much more entrepreneurial leeway than you might get in other companies. Benchmarx encourages us to think outside of the box to get a great result. Benchmarx provides so many intangible benefits for its staff. I find that working at Benchmarx gives you a real look at what it's like when you run your own business, and as a result, you learn a lot more and battle a lot more and general have a bit more about you as a member of the Benchmarx team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • Be willing to learn. Be resilient. Realise that life is about more than a paycheque. You can find real purpose at Benchmarx.
