My role in IBM consulting is to work project to project to deliver value to clients. Therefore, the role an IBM apprentice does can vary greatly between your cohort. In my own current project, I work on a large project within the public sector focussing on security, clearance and privacy.
I have learnt a myriad of new skills whilst being an IBM apprentice. Namely, I have learnt how to work with clients and complete various things a client may require during the consulting life cycle. For example project proposals, change requests, and showcases. Additionally, I have learnt a huge amount about my selected area of work, this being in my case the public sector. Naturally I have also gained a lot of knowledge within the field of technology.
I very much enjoy my level 4 junior management consultant pathway. I feel the pathway not only is educational, but also allows me the freedom to learn and develop in areas I feel passionate about, and therefore align myself with areas I would like to see my career move towards in the future.
The junior management consultant apprentice pathway is managed and organised by a central 'foundation team'. The pathway is very well organised, with a team in place to ensure all of our education is being correctly tracked, and any events or special classroom style learning is booked in advance on our behalf.
IBM is a very supportive employer for apprentices. We frequently have catch up's with managers to ensure our apprenticeship is on track. Additionally, due to the culture of IBM, apprentice are something the firm is very used to, and therefore opportunities and events for apprentices are very much baked in to the diary, meaning there is no awkwardness about you still being in education.
IBM is the training provider in the case of Junior Management Consultant apprentices at IBM, therefore the answer above is sufficient.
The junior management consultant qualification handily goes through a variety of topics that a consultant at IBM will be faced with naturally, therefore the qualification is useful to give you knowledge in these areas. Additionally, the qualification also gives us opportunity to practice our skills with each other on virtual classroom sessions, meaning our skills can be honed in a safe environment before taking on a client.
IBM has a massive variety of activities for apprentices and all early professionals to get involved with. If you are so inclined, there is a lot of charity work to be done in our business resource groups. Additionally, we have culture based events, education events, a summer sports day, and regular meet up style socials.
Yes
IBM is a great company with a lot to get involved in. IBM has a large reach and therefore the opportunity for career growth and personal development is near endless. Additionally, IBM has a culture that allows early professionals to take on a variety of duties that other firms may reserve and keep away from apprentices. Therefore, if in the same position I was a year ago, I would certainly apply to IBM.
Ensure you are being authentic and give the interviewers and hiring team an idea of what you get involved with outside of those academics. IBMers are usually very well rounded people, with there being a huge cultural influence to be involved with community giveback. It is for that reason I would always suggest an applicant to ensure their application tells a story about them, and showcase the various things you get involved with and why that has set you up to become an IBMer.
