  • The job role involves 4, c. 12 month placements in different parts of commercial banking, such as client facing in Business Banking and Financial Analytics in Corporate Banking, supporting senior staff, speaking to customers, conducting financial analysis, working on projects etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt how to conduct financial analysis, presentation skills, project and stakeholder management, time management, macroeconomics of wider industry, client engagement, networking skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme, it is challenging and has helped me develop personally and professionally and gain opportunities and create networks that I wouldn't of otherwise had access.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well-organised and structured, with support from dedicated early careers teams, a "buddy" system, your line manager, and clear communication and deadlines from our apprenticeship provider, Kaplan and university, LIBF.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive regular support, with monthly 1 to 1's and informal drop-in sessions, professional reviews for our apprenticeship as well as strong support from our teams and line managers in the job role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have access to "lecturer drop-in sessions" around assignments for university with LIBF, progress reviews with our "talent coach" for our apprenticeship, as well as dedicated teams you can reach out to at anytime.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have found that my university studies through LIBF, have been incredibly valuable in my job role, such as learning how to conduct financial analysis and understand wider financial services industry and markets.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are various "employee resource groups" which are focused to supporting various social + cultural goals of HSBC, in main hubs in Birmingham/London there are sports teams, and there are plenty of professional networking opportunities across HSBC and socially within the Early Careers programmes.

  • Yes

  • If you are ready to challenge yourself, and are interested in a career in financial services / banking specifically with a "business-based" focus , HSBC CMB Degree Apprenticeship has plenty of opportunities as well as good support for you across the programme.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Research both the programme and HSBC, and bring your personality to the interview process.
