My role is completing client work by reviewing and testing network infrastructure or web applications. I ensure that there are no security flaws that could be exploited by external attackers.
I have learnt a series of new skills that help me professionally and personally. Some are role-specific and help me complete my day-to-day job whereas some are more interpersonal and help me in roles that I never expected to be doing!
DXC have offered me plenty of time to complete training and help me excel in my role. I also believe that the opportunities you can participate in at DXC are like no other and can definitely help you develop on a professional and personal level.
I appreciate that my role is difficult to find a dedicated apprenticeship for. While they have put us on a relevant programme, it was not the most suitable and we have been transferred to another, which has caused a slight inconvenience for submitting work. However, it was handled very well and there was very effective communication from everyone involved to inform us on what was happening.
There are many different people to reach out to for anything you may need support with. DXC provide me with 20% of my work time allocated to complete any apprenticeship work, and I am encouraged to send a weekly apprenticeship update so if I have any issues, they can be addressed quickly.
My training provider schedules meetings every 12 weeks to get an update on our skills and check in to see how we are doing with our work. They also make it known what is required for us to achieve our qualification but also consistently reassure us that there is support if we need it, and it is okay if we still need to develop some areas as they will provide us with the support we need to excel in those areas.
I feel it is highly beneficial. As aforementioned, the apprenticeship course is not directly dedicated to my role but it is relevant. This has helped me understand concepts such as networks to a much deeper level than I thought I would, and has definitely helped me in role-specific tasks.
There are a huge variety of different events to attend. DXC encourage supporting your local community so they enable you to attend events such as STEM or other volunteering events. There are also a series of internal events, such as charity initiatives or extra-curricular tasks, that allow you to connect with new colleagues and learn new skills.
Yes
As an apprentice, I feel like DXC has enabled me to excel in every aspect of my role and truly understand what it means to be an apprentice. They give you the time you need to understand your role and offer you a series of different events that can develop other skills and benefit you when you complete their Early Careers programme.
My advice is to embrace the friendly and supportive atmosphere throughout the interview process. The recruiters create a comfortable environment that allows you to truly be yourself. Don’t feel pressured to over-rehearse or present a version of yourself that doesn’t reflect who you are. Instead, focus on showing your authentic personality and sharing your experiences openly.
