I carry out the design of Highways renewal schemes. This can involve anything from surfacing renewals, road markings, traffic signs or safety barrier.
Definitely. A lot more communication skills as well as using different types of software to carry out the design work.
I really enjoyed my programme. Kier made it very comfortable for me to manage my workload alongside my coursework and assessments from the university. They were always really supportive and offered any kinds of help whenever I needed it.
Very well. The course took place face-to-face at the university for a week long block release every couple of months and Kier put us in a hotel whilst we were down there. They also adapted very well during the pandemic to offer the same level of organisation and structure.
I received a lot of support. They were always available to talk to if I had any issues with anything and didn't make me feel any kinds of unease when asking for assistance.
They want you to do well so they will always be available to offer any help or spend extra time with you if you need more clarity in a certain subject.
It gives me a lot more opportunities to progress my career which opens more doors.
There are plenty in the bigger cities like Manchester.
Yes
It is a very comfortable place to work and progress. They support you and want to see you progress through the roles and if you want to change disciplines or try another line of work they make it happen and cater your career around you.
You need to be willing and enthusiastic. It is a really great career to have and there are so many opportunities but you need to make sure that you have a passion for it and a drive to progress.
