  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Degree Apprentice in Project Management, currently working in 'In-Between Assignments', supporting various tasks set by my manager as i do not have a set team or role yet and am still waiting for something to come up - this is challenging. My role would normally involve project reporting, data analysis, administrative support, and stakeholder collaboration. I focus on developing key project management skills through hands-on experience, training, and contributing to business operations.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through my In-Between Assignments role, I have developed skills in project reporting, data analysis, stakeholder communication, and time management. I have also gained experience in administrative support, problem-solving, and attention to detail, enhancing my ability to manage tasks efficiently while building a strong foundation in project management principles.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The university aspect of my Degree Apprenticeship is decent but has room for improvement. I’ve faced challenges, particularly after being off-boarded from my initial team, where I received little support. Since September 2024, I haven’t secured another role, and the lack of guidance from the Early Careers team has left me feeling uncertain about my position. However, the buddy system has been a positive aspect, and my assigned buddy has been supportive throughout. Without a clear backup plan, I’ve found myself in a difficult position - especially as an apprentice early in my career - where stability, structured support, and career direction are essential for growth and confidence.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The 'In-Between Assignments' structure and organisation need significant improvement, especially for those in the Early Careers Scheme. CGI does promote career change and rotation, but this is hard for someone in my position. However, the overall structure of university and work life is well-organised. Once assigned to a team and role, the framework is clear, making it easier to understand responsibilities and receive structured training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When I first joined CGI, I had minimal contact with my assigned Team and Director during my first year, which made it challenging to navigate my role. However, in my second year, I was assigned a new Director who has been incredibly supportive - both professionally and personally. They dedicate time and effort to my development, offering guidance, encouragement, and career growth opportunities, which has made a significant difference in my experience.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • CGI offers a Sports & Social Club membership for just £5 per month, providing a great opportunity to meet new people and expand your network. With a diverse range of activities available, there's something for everyone, making it an enjoyable and inclusive way to connect with colleagues outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It would all depend on the person but overall, yes — CGI provides a supportive work environment and a strong community culture, where I’ve built great friendships. The company offers training, networking opportunities, and valuable employee benefits. It’s an ideal place to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience, all while being part of a collaborative team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Be yourself—every question is valid, so don’t hesitate to ask. Your voice matters, so speak up with confidence. Show enthusiasm for networking and development opportunities, and most importantly, be authentic. Genuine passion and curiosity will set you apart and demonstrate your commitment to the role you’re applying for.
