My Job role is a technical apprentice, I am currently training to be a Support Engineer in my final placement. Day to day I will either perform calibrations, self tests or problem solve engineering problems. I often work with new engineers and have had to contact external customers on occasions. Testing, modifying and understanding test equipment is my main day-to-day role as a training support Engineer.
I am currently attending college for my HND in Engineering Systems, also I have completed an IPC certification course in work. As well as this I have learned so much about how the company works and especially about the radars and lasers themselves. My knowledge is know being specialised in the Support Engineering department.
I have a great department with helpful and friendly colleagues so I very much enjoy the programme. The apprentices are all friends and help each other were possible. The company is filled with nice people who are often open for giving help, this apprenticeship is better than I expected.
I feel fairly valued in Selex ES, there are some event that we can help and we receive vouchers for etc.
The overall structure for this programme is good, the induction and beginning training was well organised and effective. The mix of college work, department work and log work is very structured also.
We receive more than enough support, we have 12 week reviews where we speak about logs and progress with our training manager, also we have apprentice meeting and can contact our training manager at anytime if we need to.
A fair amount of support, if we have any problems we all have the ability to contact HR or whoever needs to be informed.
Currently the salary is enough for all my costs, yet as the pay rises occur it will be easier to save money.
There are a fair amount of opportunities that take place out of work, we often get emails asking for us to take part in volunteer work etc.
Yes
Its a great opportunity to gain qualifications whilst working at a good company.
Don't be shy at the assessment day, be as confident and friendly as possible. Try and find what your best at and find a department using them skills.
