I have learnt both technical skills to carry out the job role, and soft skills, supported by Mott MacDonald's internal programme.
Doing an apprenticeship is very challenging, and I have had to make sacrifices to meet uni deadlines, however it has been so worth it so far.
My uni is completely virtual, meaning sometimes it's difficult to find the right support, however I have been well supported by colleagues who have been through my programme before me.
Mott MacDonald has a dedicated internal team to support apprentices and grads through the early stages of their careers, so there is always someone to speak to if I have any problems.
My uni have a dedicated support team for those needing additional academic support, and are really helpful, however they cannot provide module/content specific support, and often can be difficult to get in contact with.
My qualification gives me a basis to build further knowledge on within my role, but my role provides more support to my qualification by showing me how the skills and knowledge I'm gaining is used in real scenarios.
There are sports and social societies in each office who arrange various clubs and events. There are also apprentice - only programmes and events and plenty of networking events depending what unit you work in.
Yes
Doing an apprenticeship with Mott MacDonald has been an invaluable experience, I have been able to gain a degree at the same time as gaining on the job experience. I won't have more student loans to pay once I graduate, and I will be in a better position in the job market because of the experience I have gained. I have also had a brilliant support network throughout.
Do your research on the job role before applying and speak to people that you may know in the industry to get an idea of what your day-to-day role may look like. Research the company and make sure that your ideals align.
