  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day-to-day role in my company is to develop and integrate software for an enterprise platform. Our platform focuses on managing and reducing the carbon footprints of businesses and agencies to fight climate change, so the software I develop must have an accurate understanding of data and use it to makecalculations.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time as Apprentice I have developed my skills in coding, project/task management, presentation, design and communication. I have to attend meetings with my colleagues daily so I have adapted to working in a professional environment. Since working in this role I have learnt a variety of programming languages and tools such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, HTML, CSS/SASS, MySQL and more.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The thing I enjoy most about the programme is that it is work-focused and I'm able to build my skills independently depending on what I need for my job and what I'm interested in. I am not overwhelmed with work from the training provider and I'm able to use my daily tasks and personal training to evidence my development.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From Baltic Apprenticeships, the programme is decently structured. There have been times where I have to clarify information or resources and have ran into problems, but overall haven't struggled completing the tasks needed. I enjoy that I am able to independently learn what I need to and can focus on my role within my company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer shows excellent support, allowing me the time I need to work on personal development, independent training or apprenticeship tasks. I have learnt how to effectively communicate, collaborate and present in a professional setting and I'm quickly expanding my knowledge and abilities with my coding tasks, integrating into a app which is already built up.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Baltic Apprenticeships have provided me with good resources in order to complete my apprenticeship tasks. The tasks I'm given from my tutor are project-based. During lesson, we're often given smaller projects to be put in a workbook document which resembles our workplace projects, which are essays evidencing a project done during work. Often the Apprenticeship work takes up large chunks of time at once, but the majority of the time you're able to focus on day-to-day work tasks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The Apprenticeship programme itself doesn't teach me much as the majority of the learning is independent. I learn most from day-to-day work in my job role and Baltic help me to evidence my progress. The qualification will ultimately allow me to move onto higher roles in future and proves my skills, however even without passing I would've learnt a lot about software development and be able to progress after.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In my work there are frequently opportunities to attend events and presentations. Most of the team work hybrid but at least once a month everyone is invited to do a team meeting which often will have clients or investors attending too and we'll bond with meals and drinks. There have also been celebrations, for example our Christmas party in December, where we were able to bring partners/guests along too.
