During my placement, I had the valuable opportunity to interact with highly knowledgeable and experienced professionals. This experience allowed me to expand my technical skills since the placement took place during a busy period. The team was supportive, caring and helpful in terms of building my confidence in using PwC's software tools like Aura and Connect. Each day I was assigned multiple tasks including amortization expense and unrecorded liabilities EGAs for all entities, payroll testing, completeness checks and quality checks. I had the chance to collaborate with managers, senior associates, my CD mentor and senior managers gaining insights from their experience. While visiting client site for the first weeks of the placement, I was given the opportunity to engage in one-to-one meetings allowing me to build strong professional relationships and enhance my communication skills. With the guidance of my team, I also became proficient in raising requests through Connect and familiarized myself with platforms like, Neo and Concur Expenses, which will be useful for upcoming placements as well.
During my placement I developed the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment adapting quickly to new teams and high-pressure situations, particularly during busy periods. Managing multiple tasks that required client input such as obtaining invoices, bank statements and asset registers, helped me strengthen my time management and organizational skills. Moreover, I improved my ability to prioritize tasks efficiently, ensuring deadlines were met while maintaining attention to detail. Collaborating with different team members and interacting directly with the clients enhanced my communication skills and minimize significantly my stress levels while talking to other individuals.
The placement was a very unique opportunity given to me and I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of my placement as it provided a dynamic and engaging learning experience. The fast-paced environment and exposure to different teams and people made each day challenging yet rewarding. I really appreciated any opportunity given to me like visiting client site and staying in a hotel for the first three weeks of the placement, staying long hours to complete needed work and meeting with a partner. Working on a variety of tasks was interesting since I was given the chance to investigate different audit areas and to collaborate with team members and even work closely with the manager. Overall, the placement was an invaluable experience that strengthen my enthusiasm, and I am excited for the opportunities that future placements will bring.
During my work placement, I focused on staying as organized as possible to minimize mistakes and ensure efficiency. To effectively track assigned tasks and any questions I needed to ask, I maintained a notebook, which helped me stay on top of my responsibilities. At the start of each day, I prepared in advance by outlining my tasks, allowing me to work more efficiently and effectively. While on client site, I created a Google Sheet to track all pending client requests, ensuring nothing was overlooked. Additionally, before each meeting I made sure to be well prepared by organizing my own inquired and by being able to answer potential questions. In most cases I created a structured Google Sheet with relevant questions along with screenshots of invoices and bank statements.
Working in PwC is a great privilege, providing me with valuable insights into how team operate and the importance of upholding PwC’s ethical standards. From the very beginning the team helped me integrate into the company’s culture by demonstrating important values, behaviours and attitudes. I observed that the team focuses on developing a highly collaborative environment, where teamwork and mutual support are prioritized. Regardless of position or level of expertise, everyone was willing to assist one another, creating an inclusive and supportive workplace. This culture of collaboration improves efficiency, productivity and effectiveness during working.
Sibce joining the Flying Start Program, I have always been confident in my future career path. However my placement provided me with the opportunity to gain experience and truly understand what it means to work in PwC. During the placement i got the chance to understand the responsibilities and challenges of the job and therefore i became even more certain that I a on the right path.
During the placement, all travel expenses were covered, including train fares for client visit. While on client site i was provided with a daily allowance of approximately 40£ for food and drinks. Accomodation costs were also covered. Lastly, I received a monthly salary with overtime compensated separately.
During my placement, I had the opportunity to connect with colleagues from various departments, especially during an organized event that allowed for networking and building relationships across the organisation. Additionally i was able to engage more closely with my own team and they further introduced me to senior managers and partner. I was also introduced to my buddy , a fellow Flying Start student who provided valuable support throughout the placement. My buddy helped me navigate any challenges and issues throughout the placement.
