  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing a small team that oversees food safety, quality, legality and compliance. Attending meetings, reviewing trends, setting direction and overseeing factory and product standards.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. Although I have been in the food industry for 4-5 years prior to starting the degree, I managed to fill in quite a few gaps in my knowledge, such as in raw materials, food defence, biochemistry and nutrition, which help me understand my role better.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the degree. Some topics are not the most engaging but the tutors prepared materials in such a way that ensure that it was engaging. Applied methods of learning also help make it more fun, whilst embedding them in memories better.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was very organised. There were moments during covid where tutors had to go the extra mile to ensure that learning was still delivered to the same standard as it was in person and they made such exceptional effort to ensure that the learning objectives of all students weren't lost during this time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was always happy to support whenever requested and supported decisions that I made throughout. There were times when I felt like my time off the job could have been more regular, however, being in the role I am made it difficult to always ensure that the same regular hours could be given throughout the year, but the employer ensured the hours were given retrospectively.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutors were especially very supportive. They were always approachable and happy to support with any questions that I had and often supported outside of hours when required. They also went beyond any expectation to support me during my exceptional circumstances.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The learning outcomes have helped refined what I do through increased knowledge, refining skills and improving my behaviours. It has also helped me become more confident as a person. I have managed to be a lot more open and develop a lot of soft skills throughout this course, which have helped me in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, some limited extra curricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greencore to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Greencore do support development. I had a frustrating start to my working life, with no employers offering permanent contracts, despite being pleased with my performance. Greencore were quick to identify potential in myself and other colleagues and have supported development and promotion through the business. I never would have thought that I would find myself in this level of role at the point of joining Greencore. Also, the people that I work with are among some of the best people that I have ever worked with, something Greencore seems to have established as part of it's operation, somehow.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greencore?
  • Research The Greencore Way, understand it's journey and strategy, find out where it's strengths are in the market, research what the facility you are applying for produces and come armed with questions on these. Greencore is a business that has set it's sights on growing, so forward-thinking and engaged colleagues are always sort after for the correct role. Good Luck!
