My role as a maintenance technician involves working with different teams attending to faults and breakdowns relating to the press lines or robot cells. Servicing equipment such as weld guns, when they need it or have faulted.
I've learnt many things relating to the different technologies around the plant, how to replace, test, strip and rebuild them. I've been able to use new tools and apply different techniques.
I enjoy my program very much as it involves a lot of hands on work and being able to work with many new different people and picking up different techniques and ways of working.
The apprenticeship is very well organized especially when on placement you get to go around to other areas of the business, learning different processes gaining a broader understanding of how your work affects other areas.
We receive a lot of support from our placement managers and apprenticeship manager especially with our weekly meeting, being able to catch up and ask any questions.
We get given a lot of support when working towards our qualifications. Especially when working on job reports and write ups we are able to get support a lot of the time when the assessor is available.
The qualification doesn't necessarily relate to the real world applications, it is more just different terms used and knowing what it means rather than actually applying it.
I am part of a charity team that is currently supporting teenage cancer trust and a conservation team more focused on our impact on the environment.
