I am responsible for compiling documentation to create contracts, drafting and issuing site instruction, and managing the assessment and processing of applications for payment. My role includes liaising with sub-subcontractors to collect outstanding information and ensure smooth project workflows. I am currently developing my expertise in constructing bid authorisation forms and gaining insight to completing monthly cost reports. Additionally, I collaborate with the project quantity surveyor to evaluate competed works on-site, enabling accurate assessment of contract applications. I am currently studying a chartered quantity surveying degree with UCEM alongside my apprenticeship, after already completing a year with the University of Westminster prior to starting my apprenticeship studying quantity surveying and commercial management. I have volunteered taking part in the women in construction video as well as the apprenticeship promotion video for my company.

ESG provide a high amount of support to all their staff, not just apprentices. Communication between everyone is open and everyone is valued. For the apprentices, we work closely with our supervisors and line managers, and can always reach out to those who we don't work directly with, such as HR or our MD's. Knowing that once we complete our apprenticeship with ESG, and the support wont go away is is incredibly reassuring. It fosters a sense of continuity and commitment to our professional growth, ensuring that we can confidently transition into our roles and continue to thrive within the organization.
As an apprentice quantity surveyor, the support you receive from your training provider is essential for your success in working towards your qualifications. ESG offers a comprehensive range of support to ensure you have the resources and guidance needed to excel. This includes structured learning with a well-organized curriculum and scheduled classes with the university, as well as access to study resources like textbooks for contracts (JCT contracts), and online materials. Academic support is provided through study groups between the apprentices in the office, and personalized mentorship, with regular check-ins to discuss progress and set goals. We attend quarterly apprentice breakfast meetings where we get to discuss any issues or anything that went well. Periodic evaluations and constructive feedback help track your performance and identify areas for improvement. A supportive environment with open communication and wellbeing resources further ensures we are well-prepared to achieve our qualifications and succeed in our apprenticeship.
the academic support from tutors and mentors helps clarify any doubts and provides personalized guidance, enabling you to tackle complex problems effectively. Regular meetings to discuss university work and progress is held with our line managers every three months and constructive feedback allows you to track your progress and identify areas for improvement, ensuring continuous development.
The company has an active social committee that plan various events throughout the year, ensuring a vibrant and engaging work culture. These events include team-building activities, fostering camaraderie among colleagues. Additionally, ESG places a strong emphasis on charity events, with the social committee organizing fundraisers and volunteering opportunities to give back to the community. Football/Netball tournaments are regularly held with main contractors to raise money and also provides a chance to network through a common interest. There are many networking events for apprentices such as G4C which allows like minded apprentices/young professionals to network together.

Research the company thoroughly to understand its values, culture, and projects. If you go in as a technical apprentice knowing what you want to do, make sure you still rotate departments and find what interests you, you might be surprised; remember there are so many different roles within construction.
