  • My role involves the valuation of non domestic properties for revaluation and also work with valuation appeals

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am learning a lot about the wider experience of surveying and valuation and have particularly enjoyed learning about the construction industry. The development from apprenticeship is giving me confidence and greater knowledge of areas that are relevant to my role like valuation, surveying and inspections. I am also building a greater understanding of law relating to these areas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think the development programme is well set out, flexible and very supportive to all levels of student. My employers fully support all my needs for the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is excellent. I am able to approach my weekly off job training in my own way, watching recorded webinars and working through tasks- there is always somewhere to refer to for additional help if required by way of counsellors, contacts, forums etc.,

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Excellent support- always able to take off job learning and if I need further support they are very accommodating, maintaining regular discussions to ensure my development programme is meeting my needs

  • Constant support by way of webinars for training and preparation for assignments, forums, counsellors and various learning tools on the website

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is giving me the knowledge that may be overlooked in my day top day role because of targets etc.. I feel more confident in my ability and look forward to learning more through out the programme

  • Yes, there are various activities available through the civil service and our team which can choose to attend, whether social, sports or professional networking

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel the opportunities to develop are fantastic, the support and working environment is the best I have experienced in my working career which currently c35 years. We have flexible hybrid working arrangements which really help to add to an excellent work life balance.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Valuation Office Agency?
  • Consider what area of valuation you would be interested in and focus your application to that area- eg. Council Tax, non domestic, etc.. though there are many operational roles also available. Use the civil service job site for further support
