My role is to assist and support the quantity surveyor in managing the financial and contractually aspects of the construction projects. My role is essential in ensuring projects remain cost-effective, profitable, and within budget while maintaining quality standards
I have learnt plenty of new skills within my role, from learning the different aspects of contracts and commercial documents that are used on construction projects internally with Kier and externally with the different clients.
I enjoy being exposed to new challenges on a day-to-day basis on site with the trust and challenges downstream with the subcontractors, trying to solve issues and problems that i have not come across before.
I feel as though the university block weeks are beneficial, however it is a lot of information that is provided to us in a short period of time which can become overwhelming.
I receive a lot of support from colleagues and my line manager with my university work as well as my day to day challenges
I received a good amount of support with regards to my EPA assessment and my assignments from the University when i have requested help.
I feel as though I get exposed to new aspects of construction that I have yet been exposed to on site that enhances my knowledge and skills on site.
I have attended a few networking events with Kier to meet the different professionals, their levels and experience from all over the country to gain more relationships with fellow employees.
Yes
Kier is a very well established business as a tier One contractor where you can not get any better experience with clients and projects where they invest in young employees like myself.
I would definitely apply to Kier group to get a great education on site within construction sites and at Sheffield University to gain a full quantity surveying degree without any student fee's and gain great experiences.
