Procurement of work packages, managing/ assessing subcontractor payments and walking out on site to check progress.
Almost all the skills I've learnt have been new as I had no previous experience in the role or in construction. Once I'd learnt new skills I then develop on them day by day in the work place and also while attending university.
I really enjoy the programme
I've been very impressed with the structure of the programme, there is a good amount of support and they clearly take on advice on how the programme can be improved.
I've received a good amount of support from my day to day colleagues as well as the wider Kier organisation
It is your responsibility to manage your time. However, they are understanding about the balance and allow you time if necessary to complete uni work as well. Work comes first but not at the cost of doing well in your degree.
At this current time I think that i'm developing in my Job role faster than the qualification is teaching me however i expect this to switch as I get deeper into the course.
I get invited to local networking events for trainees and apprentices as well as attending socials that we may have with the people working on my site.
Yes
It's a huge company which it turns provides loads of oppurtunities for growth and chances to work on some really unique projects.
Be enthusiastic and if you're interested in a commercial role then remember that although there are many aspects that Kier prides themselves on the most important thing for a successful business is making money and generating cash.
