  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in an embedded project management team within an engineering function. The role covers a wide variety of project management activities and can vary massively day to day. With multiple projects ongoing it provides an opportunity to develop many project management skills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. Pretty much all of my project management skills have been developed through this apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme to a good extent and the exposure and experience gained so early in my career has been invaluable. However there are parts that are not as enjoyable, such as the learning provider, The University of Cumbria has been a relatively poor learning provider throughout the apprenticeship. Due to the rapid expansion of the programme it is clear the university has struggled to provide continuous high quality learning and can be frustrating at times with the lack of competence shown by some of the lecturing staff.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • For the most part, the programme is well structured. With continuous reviews and support provided throughout it makes it easier to balance the requirements of the apprenticeship. Due to the large cohort of apprentices within the business it can sometimes feel overcrowded but in general it is a well structured programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not much, The University of Cumbria provide a poor level of support and have done throughout, with a small amount of actually useful teaching provided in the assistance of gaining our qualifications.

    3/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The degree gained from the training provider does not help much at all really. The skills and experiences gained through placements within the business have helped much more in being able to perfrom in my current role.

    3/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • no not very many at all. There is a professional networking event held occasionally but that is it.

  • Yes

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Research the role and the skills required for the role a lot before you interview. Show enthusiasm for the product we produce and for the role that you would be doing if you got the job.
