  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Service & Repair Gas Engineering Apprentice, we are taught to fix and service boilers / central heating systems. Day-to-day we are either in the academy or out on patch (working with a mentor) and constantly learning.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so far how to install pipework, service boilers, repair certain parts of the boiler, developed my driving skills as were given a company van first day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i really enjoy the program because its hands on work, involves problem solving, and you do it with a good group of people besides you.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the program is really good, you'll spend a few weeks in the academy leaning, then applying the skills you learnt on patch with a mentor on jobs.

  • I receive a lot of support from my employer and trainer. They are always available and very helpful when i do need help.

  • I receive a lot of support from my trainer, they really do care.

  • A lot

  • yes they have football every wendesday

  • Yes

  • because its a good career to have, and it is fun


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Gas?
  • Research if you want to fix and service boilers, or if you want to install boilers and do pipework, or install smart meters. Theres many different roles that you might like so research each one
