In my role i am responsible for managing works on site and ensuring a high level of health and safety as well as quality is upheld. This includes ensuring works in each area are being completed to a timely manner according to programme.
Through my experience so far i have developed many management skills which have allowed me to grow my responsibility in my position. Whilst doing so it has also pointed out which areas of focus that i need to further develop.
I have been enjoying my programme so far as it has allowed me to thrive in what i enjoy, This also means i am still further enjoying it. i have enjoyed being more of a responsible person on site and holding more responsibility.
Kier as a organisation i feel is a well structured business as it shows progression in the different work areas for each person. This helps with a structured career plan for people in my positions.
I receive a lot of support in my role from my mentor and colleagues around me. whether this is a query or just a hand with a task i need, they have always given the support i need. Not only in work but in getting to work.
Within my team i have a mentor who helps me with tasks when i need it, this allows me to have the freedom to ask questions when necessary. This helps support me towards the end goal of my degree.
I have felt that my qualification and knowledge i am gaining from my educational side is being re-enforced from the more practical on the job learning. I have found that i learn more from the job then the course as i am being introduced to many different things on site.
On site we have previously arranged a 5 a side football match for wellbeing, as well as this among a few of us we arrange monthly pool/dart nights which we all enjoy as it allows us to have a separation from work.
