  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My dad to day role changes quite frequently. Sometime I am out on the track testing vehicles, using testing hardware & software, and working on the feature that the team I work for do, other days I could be doing some market research and looking at competitors vehicles to see what they do, so that we understand trends in the market to aid us in customer feedback.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have learned a variety of skills while working with JLR, for example, I recently have been undergoing vehicle testing training and learning how to using testing equipment and software to ensure the vehicle is doing what it is supposed to do, as well as when it might not and learning problem solving skills to think out the box. I have also learned a lot of the professional work placed skills, such as writing a professional email and creating team meetings correctly, as well as using excel, which it very helpful to display information.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this programme, I like working on the projects that have been assigned to me, as well as having the opportunity to get real life experience on this, which has developed my knowledge exponentially. I am also giving lot of freedom, meaning if I was to explore a particular area, my manager will always support this to develop my knowledge. However, this course is very intense and therefor I do believe this programme is best suited to people who are organised and like taking all opportunities that are given to them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the programme is well structured and we have a good balance of university days and work days, and if we need anymore university days they are often very good at granting them. However, I would say that the way to record Off the Job (OTJ) does have some room for improvement. It was not well organised when I started and was quite confusing, they have changed it since but it was be inconvenient to do still.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I reive a lot of support from my employer, what I am confused about something they are always will to help or set up a meeting to go through it so that I understand better. This I find very helpful because I came into JLR with limited knowledge and at such always feel supported when I get confused.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive some support from the training provider This tends to depend on the lecturer, some are extremely helpful, other are not. It may take a while to hear from them as well and but that point it can be too late, plus sometimes they don't really respond to the question correctly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Currently this does not aid, however this cold be due to only being 6 months into the programme, later down the line I do believe this will be more helpful, as currently we are learning 'core' subjects and have not really specialised in any topic, where as work I do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there is an excellent young network group along with many other great extra-curricular activities. For example there was a winter ball held by the early careers department for the apprentices and graduates. This is great as I get to meet other people doing the same thing as me within the business. Not only this, but the team I work for has a group social (funded by JLR) ever three months. This could be anything from lunch/dinner or crazy golf, mocktail classes and bread making classes, this is a great way to get to know members of the team out of the office.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great place to work, the employees are friendly and helpful. They are always willing to aid you if needed and support you in what you may want to do within the business. They also have a lot of professional development, so I would strongly recommend this company to anyone.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • Be yourself. JLR are a very inclusive business and they want to get to know you, so my best advice would be to relax a bit come prepared to any meetings that you many have with them and just be yourself.
