I currently work as a DevOps engineer apprentice, gaining experience across various areas. Some days, I focus on deployments; other days, I work on automation pipelines or assist in the help channel to resolve issues.
When I joined IBM, I had no background whatsoever in programming, I did not even study computing for GCSEs. So yes, I have up-skilled massively, I have learnt skills such programming, cloud computing and client conversations.
It is a good programme, it is on the longer side however. But truly, it is what you make of it.
Amazingly, I think all large employers such adopt a similar structure to IBM when it comes to foundation units.
As much as you require, if you need it, it's there.
They are happy to pay for qualifications which is a massive bonus, my AWS certificates were all paid for by the company. In regards to my training provider, MMU, they do also help me work towards my main qualification which is my degree.
It's good, but at the end of the day, it is just theory. It's difficult to apply most things I learn, especially since there isn't a distinct pathway for DevOps engineering.
Yes, but to I attend, no not really. It's down to yourself once again, if you an extroverted type of person, you would go crazy with the amount of events you could attend! (in a good way)
Yes
Great career progression, great company.
Good luck! Don't worry about the number of applications you make, worry about the quality. Also if you apply to IBM in particular, make sure your presentation is well rehearsed and creative!
