  • As an Apprentice Service Designer, I support user research, journey mapping, and service blueprinting. I collaborate with teams, conduct usability testing, and refine processes to improve user experiences. My role involves engaging stakeholders, assisting in workshops, and contributing to service improvements through research, prototyping, and data-driven insights.

  • Yes, I’ve developed strong research and user-centred design skills, improving my ability to conduct usability testing and journey mapping. I’ve also enhanced my stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and prototyping skills. Additionally, I’ve gained confidence in presenting insights, networking with senior and other colleagues and collaborating across teams to refine and improve services.

  • I really enjoy my current as it allows me to develop hands-on experience in service design while learning from experienced professionals, as well as working for a client that I feel is making a difference in the world. I appreciate the mix of collaboration and problem-solving, as well as the opportunity to improve real services that impact users. It’s both challenging and rewarding.

  • My programme is well-structured, offering a good balance between learning and practical experience. There’s clear guidance, regular check-ins, and opportunities to apply service design methods as well as a consultant in real projects. While some areas could be more streamlined, overall, it provides strong support for my development.

  • We receive so much, even take part in additional tutorial sessions and internal learning courses like "Client Conversations" which help us to really learn how to talk and sell to clients.

  • My training provider offers good support through structured learning materials, regular check-ins, and access to mentors. I receive guidance on assignments and feedback to improve my skills. While the support is helpful, more tailored resources or additional industry insights could further enhance the learning experience.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification provides a solid foundation in service design principles, helping me understand key methodologies and best practices. The structured learning complements my hands-on experience, improving my ability to apply research, prototyping, and user-centred design. While beneficial, more real-world case studies or industry-specific insights could enhance its impact.

  • es, there are various extra-curricular activities, including professional networking events, internal knowledge-sharing sessions, and social gatherings. These provide great opportunities to connect with colleagues, learn from industry experts, and develop skills beyond my role. Engaging in these activities enhances both my professional growth and workplace experience. I try when I can to get involved as I have outside commitments.

  • I would recommend IBM to a friend. It offers great learning opportunities, exposure to real-world projects, and a supportive environment for professional growth. The company fosters innovation and collaboration, providing valuable industry experience. Which has been imperative with my changing careers. While every role has its challenges, the overall experience has been rewarding and insightful.
