Communicating with subcontractors, analysing subcontractor applications and completing payments, measurement and completing BOQ..
Became excel proficient, developed my measurement skills from uni, learned more about contracts and NEC
I enjoy my programme because I now feel I have enough technical knowledge to go into the industry as a grad and now know how to conduct myself in a professional setting
There is a clear structure from online learning, to completing small tasks, to being given responsibility and completing tasks independently
I receive as much support as I require from my team and line manager, if I require help with a task or other scenario they are always willing to point me in the right direction
I have little contact with my uni during my placement, but I still have access to all uni resources and do have 2 check ups during the year to check everything is ok
I feel as though uni gave me the basic skills and QS knowledge but being on placement has massively developed those skills
There are weekly events the company encourages you to get involved with, from networking to talking in schools to encourage children to join the industry
Yes
There is a clear structure for the year placement and often opportunities to stay with the company and progress
When applying for placements it can be a worry that you do not have extensive technical knowledge yet, my advice would be do not worry about that and focus on making a good impression and showing your personality/ willingness to learn
