I am an Assistant Quantity Surveyor based on on a flood storage reservoir project in greater Manchester. My responsibilities consist of day to day running of the project including contract admin, managing subcontractors on site, managing change inc pricing variations, preparing subcontract packages, monthly valuations and reporting to senior management.
Since starting my apprenticeship I have developed many new skills including communication, negotiation, my Microsoft excel knowledge and presentation skills so I have become more confident in speaking in front of people in formal and non formal environments.
I thoroughly enjoy my degree apprenticeship the balance of working and Uni works very well. I have had exposure I all aspects of my role and I like the fact that everyday is different and constantly changing which I have deal with due to the nature of high value infrastructure projects.
Very well structured especially from the employers side, we have a designated training lead for the commercial side of the business which supports me progressing with my APC.
All the support I require, I feel like I can raise any concerns with anyone within the business not just my line manager.
We get the support we require and regular 3 way check ins with the employer myself and the University.
It has given me the foundations to the knowledge I have already attainted from working in the industry on a day-to-day basis.
