My role involves The following Tasks : Managing subcontract accounts on projects which involves drafting subcontract orders and measuring works before making payments to avoid over payment and ensure delivery of contracted quality works. Drafting and maintaining monthly Liability sheets, Forecast, monthly Project manager report and project CVR. I also raise and price compensation Events when variations arise or when we are instructed to do additional work by the client from the contracted works.
Having not had prior experience before joining the company, I have to say i have learnt all the technical skills to do the quantity surveying job on my apprenticeship . i have also improved my communication, management, organisational, computer skills like MS office and ERP programmes like Fast draft, workspace, and advance which are used to manage contracts, store data and communicate.
I am excited about the programme because i get to learn on the job and the senior people both commercial and operations are supportive which eases the learning process.
I have a structured programme where goals are set and tasks are given and then reviewed every week to determine where i am excelling and areas that i need more support or extra training.
The employer gives support through both the commercial and operations team on the different projects and also general skills training programmes are provided by the employer.
The training provider ensures that i am learning and getting the appropriate help and support from the employer through setting up 3 month meetings with the client.
The technical Knowledge on site is kind of different from what we are taught in class rooms but that is expected because scenarios in real life and construction projects are almost different
We usually have workshops that involve meeting and interacting with different colleagues from other parts of the country, apprentices usually have an annual social and team building outdoor activities and annual Christmas parties

Be open and truth full when applying about your abilities and skills because the company improves the skills you bring with you to the job and they ensure that you gain the required skills to perform your job if you don't already have them.
