Currently I am learning in Furness college 5 days a week and work 37.5 hours a week all from the college. I do a mixture of workshop and classroom work throughout the week originally doing half classroom and half workshop but now do 1 day workshop and 4 days classroom.
I have learnt many new skills within the workshop as I started knowing nothing at all to do with tools and electrical but now know the basics of electrical and can confidently use all tools I need to. I have learnt lots in lesson aswell due to having to do presentations so I have become more confident.
I really enjoy workshop and look forward to doing it and then I like classroom work less but still find it interesting and I know it is an essential. I enjoy the people I’m on a course with and have made good friends on it.
There are areas such as workshop that have been consistently good and well maintained with teaching standards. The lesson side is less organised with sometimes not having tutors for certain lessons however they are now fixed and the only time we don’t have a tutor is independent study time. This is the college that does lessons not BAE so I do not know what it is like in the business.
We have monthly engagement session to keep us updated with what is going on to do with moving into the business and what issues are rising with the college so we can correct them.
They teach us in lesson and workshop to a decent standard but I do think the workshop is better taught. We don’t get much homework which is good and I am on track with all work.
It has hugely improved how I would have performed without this teaching as I knew nothing before and can competently do a lot of basic electrical work. Although my work in college is not the same as in the business it has given me a much better understanding of electrics.
There is not
Yes
It is good in the business and has lots of benefits if you stay in. It pays one of the best in the area and has good apprenticeship schemes.
Do some research before your interview and don’t be nervous going into different elements of the selection process.
