My Role is to manage and mentor an overall team of 20 people to build, manage and deliver high end golf vacations to the world market. As well as championing my team to do the best they can I also mange partners to deliver the very best on the behalf of our business.
My apprenticeship has been a great tool in understanding and refining my skillset. The course has been fantastic tool to take a step back, look at how I manage and how I can improve on what I do in a day to day basis. I have also picked up new skills along the way and realised a few things about me I did not know.
I am enjoying the programme greatly. As well as learning a lot about myself and how i can develop I am also learning a lot from like minded piers in the wider business. My part of the business is very different to compass's core brand however it has been great to share experiences and knowledge.
The Structure of the programme has been ideal. The pre work sets things up nicely for the workshop and the postwork really helps you reflect on what was learnt from the day. My Tutor is great in getting the message across that suits and the workshop lecturer always has a way to set the correct tone.
Compass have been ideal in their support. Giving me the time to complete the necessary pre and post work and supporting me greatly as i travel to and from the workshop days. My line manager checks in frequently to ensure I am comfortable with where i am at on my coursework.
Both my tutor and the lecturer have been great. They are both very invested in the success of the group. They are both undestanding and approachable, delivering in a style suitable to myself and the wider cohort.
As discussed earlier if I was to give one answer to what I have taken out of the qualification so far it would be I am understanding the how/what/why I do what I do more than ever. This has benefited me day to day as I have become a more reflective leader that is getting more out of the skill set of my team.
The business has regular opportunities to get involved with. My part of the business is away from the larger core of the team however we do our best to get involved with them or replicate in the office in Scotland as much as possible. My day to day role involves a lot of networking with guests and partners.
Yes
The business really does invest in its people. The opportunities in the wider business are endless and they have a massive focus on succession and development plans. A career with Compass can be a long one if you have the correct attitude to work hard.
My biggest bit of advice would be to not be afraid to show your potential. The business recognizes good people and rewards hard work and dedication. They are more than willing to match anyone's effort and will always invest in talent.
