Assisting Project Managers on various projects. Supporting the recording and monitoring of risks, opportunities and change, presenting project progress updates, running team meetings, reviewing commercial progress, monitoring programme, planning access, attending site visits.
I have learnt how to do all of the above in my time at the business, as project management was new to me. Items such as tracking and monitoring risk, issues, opportunities and change, running client review meetings and facilitating safe and efficient project progress are all new skills.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my degree apprenticeship. I completed 2 years at a previous employer and have completed my 3rd and 4th years at VolkerWessels UK. They have provided me many fantastic opportunities to develop and learn, which has greatly supported me in my degree apprenticeship too.
It is very well structured. It insists and ensures that 20% of my time is spent off the job, allowing me time to focus on university assignments as well as new learning opportunities outside of my day-to-day role.
I have received great support from VolkerWessels UK. My line managers and team members have always been there to answer my questions and provide new learning experiences, which has supported greatly with my studies and assignments. They have respected my study days and understand their importance.
They have been incredible from start to finish. I could not ask for better support from the University, they always ensure your time is spent well and always look for ways to support or develop your learning. I am grateful to have completed this programme through them.
My degree apprenticeship is varied and detailed, which has allowed me to develop greatly in various areas. It has developed my knowledge of, and skills in, strategy, ethical leadership, project management and human resource management to name a few, allowing me to effectively perform in my role.
There have been a few I have seen (such as charity walks/events), however I have not seen too many opportunities for this throughout my time at the business and while on the degree course. This is something however I would be interested in to develop my connections in-house.
