  • I work as a piling engineer. A typical day may include: Producing HSEQ documentation Reviewing Live Projects Various Progress Meetings Regular contact with Clients

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I generally enjoy my role, it gives me lots of experience and varied workspaces too as I can be out on site or in the office etc.. I enjoy the work I get tasked with and feel I have developed a trust where I am trusted to complete it

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is generally good. We are given various learning points to complete throughout different stages of our career and regularly reviewed The pay structure however can be inconsistent and ambiguous

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support received for university learning is great, We are given exam days and study days during exam season to help us. There is a sometimes lack of support on the engineering side with regards to completing professional qualifications (IPD) required to complete the apprenticeship that needs addressing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • LJMU would hold quarterly tripartite meetings with myself & employer which would check up on progress and let us know where we should be up to with regards to our professional qualification They would however provide no support in the next steps to achieving this qualification They provided any requested support for our degree learning and ensured that we got through our degree successfully

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Within the qualification I complete there are various modules that help me to learn the requirements and responsibilities within my job role there are also some modules that give me an appreciation for the wider role within society but that I may not use on a day to day basis

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we have regular team building events whether its hiking for charity or playing 5 a -side football every couple of weeks. We also have apprenticeship conferences where we meet up with other apprentices within the company and discuss our roles and responsibilities
