I am a apprentice project manager within the rail industry that assists with multiple different projects. These projects include the design of railway stations, rebuilding large bridges, and building depots across the country. This involves communicating directly with the client on a day-to-day basis and managing disciplines of design engineers.
I have learnt the importance and built upon the skill of patience within a professional setting. I have also learnt the importance of being a people person and learning to adapt your communication style to fit the recipient to allow for the best chance of success
I enjoy my programme as it allows me to bridge my academic and professional life while exploring and expanding upon my personal experiences.
The programme is structured okay with some holes and issues with the apprentice programme. At times there is a lack of effective communication or effort by the early careers team to build effective relationships between the apprentices or the wider business.
Personally, I receive a good level of support from my line manager and colleagues within the office however effective support from the early careers team is few and far between. This may be due to my location not being in a key area e.g. London, Manchester, Birmingham
I tend to do this independently with regards to my BSc and the APM PMQ, however im sure support is there is required?
I believe aspects of my qualification are helpful however the majority of theories or frameworks are outdated and unused within my workplace.
There are good activities within the York office with a great environment being fostered by the office director. social events, running club at lunch time and many more events are very good.
