  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day-to-day basis, I attend college where I attend lessons, work on various assignments and carry out jobs in both the electrical and mechanical workshops.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time on my apprenticeship, I have definitely developed new skills which have helped me along the way. The BAE Systems behaviours have been helpful in my day-to-day tasks. These behaviours are adaptability, creativity, strategic vision, inspiration, collaboration, develops people, courage and integrity. I have also learnt new skills in the workshop for example, I have learnt how to create different electrical circuits and how to test them appropriately.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship at BAE as it offers the opportunity to earn as I learn the skills that I will need to carry out my job at the close of my apprenticeship. I have a large amount of independence in the workshop and am trusted to carry out different jobs which some people may struggle to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • During my experience, the programme has been well organised with the odd problem.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a fair amount of support from BAE but time is tight to complete assignments and we are expected to carry out a lot of class work in a short time compared to the other apprentices since we are on a balance of two days in classes and three days in the workshop.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The college which provides our training doesn't really put in the effort which is needed for the qualification and some tutors express that they aren't able to teach the content in the amount of time we have to complete the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The college provide a good insight of how things work in the business but sometimes struggle to relate the work we are doing to how it will operate in the business since some of them don't have experience in the specific field which we are going to work in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • To my knowledge, the only thing that apprentices in college can take part in is the college council, which I am not currently part of.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BAE provides a great experience for their apprentices and work very hard to improve the apprenticeship experience and step in to improve gaps in knowledge.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Use the recommended STAR technique to answer your interview questions to give the person interviewing you a good understanding of the situation, task, action and result of your example.
