  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to assist in the financial well being of the site by reporting and review financial data based on the activities of the site. My daily tasks can change fairly frequently but the majority of mornings I will report the previous days Margin and Value Add data to my Financial Director before his daily review meeting with the Leadership Team. I also assist in the set up and capitalisation of assets purchased for business use.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to work to deadline more frequently and to concisely communicate data in emails. This has also helped broaden my skills in report building using a tool unfamiliar to me in PowerBi in which I have received high praise for. One of my biggest improvements is the ability to speak up publicly and talk in front of a crowd.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme as it has helped me achieve my goals in getting my level 3 qualification in a preferred format to me as full time classroom learning was not working as a route for me and this apprenticeship has seen me do a lot better as evidenced by me passing all exams first time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There have been one or two small bumps in the road from the college side where a tutor left which halted my studies and also my final results taking a little while to arrive which stopped me starting the process to move up to the next level. From a workplace side there has been fairly straight forward with full support behind my studies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great amount of support from my employers in the form of extending offers for me to learn things relating to my course along with being mindful of me balancing my workflow between college and work. Also my team will congratulate me greatly on my achievements in passing my exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a decent amount of support, my tutors are fairly open to me emailing them in regards to what needs to be looked at coming up to an exam or what needs to be added to my portfolio for my EPA. My only concern was the slow turnover of tutors which halted progress for around 4-5 weeks but other than that it has been fine.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it has enhanced my understanding of topics I briefly understood to a decently high level to a point where I feel comfortable having a conversation about in a work environment and not be out of my depth. For example I have been able to further my understanding of capitalisation and capital expenditure through college and apply that to my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activity to get involved with. Some I have participated in are a walk up a mountain in the lake district for a weekend with a large group of employees. Another was a gathering of many other apprentices from two other sites to have an event to celebrate the graduation of apprentices and to hand out apprentice of the year awards. Theses are couple among others such as quiz nights, christmas parties and rounders tournaments.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
