I process patient samples in the department of Clinical Chemistry. I ensure the samples meet the expected standards and ensure they are processed within turn around times. I also carry out equipment maintenance to ensure all machines are working. I work in Pre-analytics, automation and manual endocrine.
I have learned valuable skills such as training and leadership. I have also learned many scientific job specific skills such as pipetting, analyser maintenance, running quality control, and troubleshooting. My communication skills have also developed in a proffesional manor and I am able to adjust my language dependant on the person I am spreaking to.
I enjoy my program as it is a challenge and it allows me to develop both my knowledge and within the work place as I apply what I learn.
I feel the course is well structured with a mix of coursework and exams which pushes you understanding of the content. Although the is a a lot of asynchronous work to complete outside of study days and contact time, I was prepared for this when applying and am able to structure self learning well without getting too overwhelmed.
I have informal meetings with my workplace tutor often which is perfect as I am able to update or on my progress or if I need to do anything in the workplace to support my uni-work. There are plans in place for me to experience more advanced techniques and procedures to compliment my studies.
I have 3 monthly meetings which are very helpful on checking in on my progress. If I need any questions answering they respond timely over email.
I am able to apply the knowledge from lectures and the scientific techniques learned in uni labs to my daily role and they defiantly help consolidate each other. I strive of being challenged and having more knowledge has helped me gain the confidence to ask to learn new things at work which are currently outside my role.
There are no structured activities but as well get on well as a team we often go for social things after work on fridaays.
