  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Within my role as a substance misuse practitioner, I assess plan and create treatment plans for individuals who are obligated by probation or court ordered, to engage in treatment as a part of their license conditions, working with partnership agencies such as adult social care and integrated health services.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My over-all skill set has improved as a practitioner, as higher education has given me the knowledge, skill and behaviors which has had a positive impact to my practice, in relation to safeguarding children and the individuals that I support and advocate injustices that present for server multiple disadvantaged members of society.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Higher education was daunting as a mature student, but by year two, I was comfortable within the learning and was enjoying the experience as I could recognise my personal growth and that of my professional practice. I am able to reflect on self which has been a humbling experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the course was well structured and inclusive as student feedback was always heard to make improvements to the course, which benefits my cohort and the apprentices after me which is helpful when you are also in a full time role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers have been very supportive as I was granted additional study days, support with books and supervisions from my team leader, practice educator and work based mentor, who are available when requested outside arranged supervisions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have utilised lectures guidance in relation to meeting learning objectives in summative assessments, also arranging sessions with my Ranstead support worker who proof reads and supports with additional guidance around improving assignments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Higher education has enlightened me to why I do what I do in practice, relating it to theory which helps to understand an individuals situation and how societal issues impact people that lay within a lower socioeconomic bracket with policies that drive the need for social work interventions.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Once a year, the organisation holds a fundraising event called the big sleep out, which gives workers the opportunity have an insight into what our clients endure whist raising money to support the clients we support.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Framework has invested in me, giving me the opportunity to progress within the organisation, valuing me as a practitioner. Higher education was encouraged and have felt very supported throughout the process.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Framework?
  • Apply if you want to help and support disadvantaged individuals, whist gaining job satisfaction daily from the people that you support working for an organisation that prides themself on making a difference.
