Throughout the apprenticeship I have been involved in preparation, planning, execution and documentation of audits and the relevant procedures. I've been involved in discussions internally, with managers and partners, and externally, with accounts teams and chief execs. I have found the work challenging at times, but the college work to be admin heavy and long winded.
I have learned a huge amount through studies at college and through training at work. I have been involved in work provided training courses and found them to be incredibly helpful. My skills on computer systems have been massively improved and find myself to be much more competent than when I started.
The work is good, it can be repetitive or monotonous at times, but the people are great. I have been fortunate to get on really well with my colleagues and enjoy myself at work. The college learning has been massively beneficial and helped me pass my exams. The college admin and box ticking exercises can be a bit mundane and feel completely unnecessary.
The work and training is organised well, the college courses and studies are organised well, but communication can be poor from the college. I have found the overall process to be relatively organised, however it does sneak up on you if you don't keep things at the forefront of your mind and things can slip by.
A huge amount. Our office has been really supportive, they offer time off for studies, and scale back the workload around exams. When I need help or support, they have listened and provided me with the help I need. I have felt overwhelmed at times, and struggled to keep on top of everything, and there are times where there is too much on my plate, but I have managed.
The college studies and general education have been fantastic. At the start of a module it can feel like I won't get the content to stick, but by the end it clicks and it works out. I have found that they have organised and structured the training in a way that allows me to properly understand and best execute for the exams.
Massively. Aside from being a requirement to work in audit, it has enabled me to do my work and apply my knowledge daily. I have found that the studies often line up very well with the work and the understanding of treatment and processes is regularly applied in the workplace.
We have quarterly social activities that we attend. There is mixed attendances, but you can go to as many or as few as you would like. We founded a 5 a side team, and we regularly get together to play, seasoned players who have played from a child and some who have never kicked a ball before.
Yes
Our office in particular has a great culture, we have a supportive environment and great people to support you. I know that other offices have had very different experiences, but our office has been one of the main reasons I can see myself staying longer term in audit.
Make sure you do your research. Look into the requirements and be prepared to sacrifice your spare time. You may want to consider looking into experiences in audit or the other streams before applying and be sure its what you want to do. The exam stress is a lot and you may become demotivated. Too many exam failures will lead to termination, so be prepared for that risk. If you really want it, you'll be fine, but if you're unsure, it may not be for you.
