  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a consultant, which includes preparing US and UK tax returns for clients worldwide, communicating with clients on a daily basis. and helping out on more challenging advisory memos for clients. Maths is involved in my role but nothing too difficult and the team are really supportive and helpful with any question I have.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use Excel efficiently, and how to use technology to make my job easier. I have also earned great skills for the rest of my career, in terms of how to communicate effectively and be a good team player.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love coming into work every day. My intake are all very friendly and the managers are equally as friendly. It is nice that whilst we work we can chat about other events in our lives, but there is no obligation to overshare. The internal teams also make sure that us trainees have a great start to our careers by being open-minded and proactive in building bridges between the different client-facing teams and by giving us opportunities from the very start of our careers.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The in-house apprenticeship/trainee team is great and they are always on hand to help with any issue that we have with the external providers. We were given an extensive list of our dates from the start so that we know what to expect over the 3-year training contract.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive great support from our employer. With regular check-ins, we never feel like we are on our own. Balancing work and exams is tricky and the team we have here make sure that we feel comfortable and they do what they can to help us move through the tuition, revision, and exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • First Intuition is poorly managed and majorly disorganised. It is a real shame that there is such a disparity between our experience in the office and our experience offsite. They regularly fail to have necessary information to hand which is frustrating and makes our job harder.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The tax training is necessary to succeed in my role and so it does help me perform better. The ISP days at First Intuition are slow and low-level for university graduates, but are more beneficial for those that have not completed a university degree.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are sports teams and many social events weekly which means there is always the option to get involved. There are also Staff Networks, and I feel privileged to be a chair of a network at the firm. Having the support of the firm to launch a new Staff Network so early on in my tenure here is great.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Buzzacott to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Buzzacott is a great place to train and develop your skills at the start of your career. Managers understand that exams and revision must come first when they come around and if you happen to fail an exam, that is no issue and the firm will allow you to resit.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Buzzacott?
  • Be yourself and sell yourself! Never sell yourself short and make people interested in who you are and how you can contribute to the firm.
