I am a broadcast engineering apprentice, as such I assist in the maintenance and building of broadcast infrastructure.
I have learnt a lot of new skills and it has been an invaluable learning experience.
I have been in the programme for 6 months of 3 years and so far have really enjoyed every moment.
The proposed structure of the programme is very well organised. For the broadcast and media systems engineering degree apprenticeship it is structured in blocks of 3 months on the job work experience and 3 months at university on campus, which is mostly good however as someone who previously completed a university course, I would have personally preferred more of a focus on the work placement.
I receieve the right amount of support for me, the scheme specialists and leaders are excellent for apprenticeship specific questions and the placement managers have been great for work related questions.
As with many universities I feel there could always be more support and understanding for students however this is not an issue specific to the learning provider attached to this apprenticeship.
I am still early in my apprenticeship so they do still seem to be slightly disconnected however I feel the degree will definitely help me within my job role.
The BBC holds many events and there are several communities you can join, including apprentice specific spaces which provides the social aspect of university people could miss in a work place.
Yes
It is an excellent environment to work in so far and the opportunities to learn and grow even after the apprenticeship are vast through their many diverse training courses.
The application and interview process is quite long and takes a good amount of time within each stage, however if you are honest with your answers and are not scared to say that you don't know during the knowledge tests you will be respected.
