Every day is different, depending on the department I am in I may complete any tasks from creating bundles for Court, proof reading documents, drafting contract clauses, sitting in on internal or external meetings, attending appeal hearings, researching legislative principles and completing Pro Bono work with domestic violence survivors and refugees.
I am constantly encourages to develop my legal technical skills and my professional skills. This includes drafting, interpersonal skills (including written and oral communication and active listening skills), document review, researching (commercial and legal), presenting, networking, proof reading, organisation, attention to detail, mathematics, literature and language skills, and IT skills too.
I feel incredibly luck at the opportunity afforded to me. I enjoy every day on the programme, even when I am not doing the "fun" jobs, I love what I am able to be a part of.
The programme is (for the most part) very well organised although noting that no cohort has completed the programme yet and so naturally, there are still some elements to be figured our and finalised.
The support is boundless and plentiful both in respect of the academic side of the course, and the legal practical element.
Contact with the University is minimal unless otherwise sought out, although there are resources available should they be wanted or required.
I feel that the degree once complete will be applicable to the practice I complete however on a day-to-day basis, its applicability is dependant on the modules I am currently studying and the department I am currently working within.
DLA Piper has a number of internal employee networks to provide community for different groups (religious, gender, LGBTQ+, social class etc), alongside other "clubs" like a football team and a choir. There are regularly events held in the firm for the employees enjoyment, including trips to see shows, or celebrations of festivals or holidays.

DLA Piper is an environment where you get back out what you put in. The firm consistently invests in its people and their enjoyment as well as their professional careers. The people are genuinely friendly and the firm really does live its values. It is a lovely place to work, with interesting matters and an incredible sense of community.
Be sincere and honest, DLA Piper wants to employ excellent lawyers as much as it wants people who will contribute to the community.
